About us
Background
Gift Schools serves orphans and vulnerable children from Bangladesh, Kwapunda and Kibarani slums. It started as a ministry to the children, for as a Sunday school teacher I was burdened by the fact that many children from poor humble background were not able to get education. That made them end up as street children, dust bin searchers, pickpockets. Many ended in drugs and drug abuse. Many of the children were indulging in early sex, teen age pregnancies or even early marriages. It is determined to change the slum through educating school age going children, as that in the long run will change the slum and change their lives for God. Since it's inception in 2002, more than 1000 vulnerable children have been educated in Gift Schools. These would not be educated otherwise, because their education depends on someone who give them education.

Gift Schools Today
Gift Schools are working in mud houses in the slum area Bangladesh outside Mombasa. More than 500 children are pupils in the 11 classes, from KG 1 to Std 8 (Preprimary 1-3 and Class 1-8, ages 1-15 years old).
A lot of the children come from families where the parent or the parents lack jobs, are poor and illiterate. There are a lot of drug problems in the slum and a lot of children end up bringing up themselves. This means that the children need all the help and care they can get in school. All education and homework has to be done in School as most of the children can’t get any help at home for studies. The school is the best place to be at for a lot of children in Gift Schools. This also means that a lot of children have got parents or caretakers as has a big problem paying school fees.
Since we have been recognized as an APBET school a lot has happened.
In 2015 9 children 6 girls and 3 boys sat for KCPE (National exams) and 8 went to high school.
In 2016 17 children 13 girls and 4 boys did KCPE and ALL of them have joined high school.
2017 20 children will seat for KCPE. 6 girls and 14 boys. We hope they all will join high school next year.
Gift Schools has been sponsored of an organization and private persons with building mud houses, a well, salaries for employees, school books, sanitary products and other equipment for the school.
The school has also, since the school got status as an APBET school, got help as a water tank, toilets, jikos and school books.

Nothing Is Impossible To God
Gift Schools is most thankful for all the help sponsors give to the school to make it run.
Gift Schools also thank God every day for providing for the school in many hard situations.
Shukran! Glory to God!
The challenges are now
• to raise the salaries for employees
• to have enough rooms in school
• go increase the education equipment, as school books, story books, etc
To be able to do that
• the income for the school has to raise, as there haven’t enough money to do this yet. But we are looking positive at the future and are working for and praying for this.
Though all the challenges Gift Schools is
• proud of the education the school gives pupils every day.
• proud of test results as are going up.
• proud of that the amount of pupils are increasing, as people around can see that the school is giving good education and is good to the children.
• proud of the buildings and furniture donated.
We know that
“Education is a hidden treasure” and we will “Never, never, never give up”.

Testimonies
"Gift school has helped my children to get education.
I was not able to take my children to school and a
parent who had taken her children to Gift school
and had her children taken in to get free education
advised me to go and talk to Linah saying this lady understands our problems and can help our children
to get education. I went and she took my children
and I only pay exam money for my children.
Gift school is a blessing to Bangladesh."
Elizabeth ApondiParent in Gift Schools
My name is Omari Kasera Khamis. I am in primary 7.
I live with my mother Sarah my sister Rukia Khamis in primary 6 and my brother Ahmed Khamis in primary 4.
Our father walked out on us when my mother was pregnant with our last born Ahmed. My mother struggled to bring us
up since she has no education to be able to get employed. She works for people doing all house hold jobs. It was very difficult for us to get education. One mother told my mother about Gift school and she brought all of us to Nursery in 2008. Since then we have been given free education and we do not pay even for exams. My mother looks for food and other essential things in life. Am always number 1 in school since primary education and I hope to pass well in
my KCPE and join Secondary education.
Without Gift school we would have been without education. Long live Gift school.
